However, marriage in the African context is a union between two families, not just two individuals. Marriage is primarily for procreation and continuation of a family line. Without marriage, there is no family, and without a family, one could not bear children. Childbearing is such an important part of an African marriage, in that marriage can be dissolved on the ground of childlessness.
