The Right Way to Read “The Odyssey”

We're not in school anymore. Nobody is grading us on dates or asking us irrelevant questions about the epic. We read the classics now for a different reason: to become better at the actual business of living — better professionals, better partners, better human beings over the long haul.

So read the epic, or watch the film, and let the names and places blur if they need to. Pay attention instead to the man who keeps choosing his course even when the wind and the gods conspire against him. To the virtues we can learn and imbibe from the Greek hero so that we apply them in the modern world to tackle our very own challenges.
