Joan was just 21, raising her young son alone in a council house in the Northwest of England, when life began to feel increasingly difficult to explain. The property already carried unsettling rumours about the families who had lived there before, but Joan initially had far more ordinary concerns: persistent infestations, illnesses, accidents, electrical faults and appliances which seemed determined to behave unpredictably. Yet as the problems mounted, something more damaging began to take hold. What followed, gives us some very difficult questions to ponder.
