Preparing a teacher takes more than equipping them with subject knowledge and classroom skills. It also means shaping their values, character and understanding of the responsibility that comes with being an educator. But how much attention do we give this part of teacher education?

In this episode of The Teacher Podcast, I sit down with Samuel Hiire Davis, National Coordinator of the International Christian Teachers Network under Woord en Daad, for a thought-provoking conversation about teacher education and the place of values in preparing teachers.

Samuel's passion for this work is deeply personal. Growing up as a disadvantaged child, he encountered two very different kinds of teachers—one who told him he would amount to nothing, and another who blessed him. These experiences helped shape his decision to become a teacher and, ultimately, to dedicate his life to strengthening the teaching profession.

Together, we explore what shaped Samuel's journey, why he believes value-based teacher education is foundational to good teaching, and what it means to prepare teachers who can make a lasting difference in the lives of learners.
