Back to Basics-Focussing on an athlete's education, health, & safety
22m | Aug 26, 2022This week on a coach for the coach I will be speaking with Amy Perko CEO of the Knight
Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.
The Knight commission is an independent group of leaders funded by the Knight Foundation
whose purpose is to develop, promote and lead transformational change that prioritizes the
education, health, safety and success of collegiate athletes.
The commission's efforts and research have helped shape public and internal discussion about
the principles and policies guiding collegiate sports, including the recent Alston ruling by the 9th
circuit court that struck down NCAA caps on student-athlete academic benefits; the Russell
Rule requiring at least one qualified minority candidate to be interviewed for head coaching,
assistant coaching, and senior administrative positions; and the NIL- the āname image and
