Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with the most memorable image in all his teaching: two men, two foundations, one storm. Jesus&#39;s words in Matthew 7:1–12 are among his most familiar — and most misunderstood. The world quotes &#34;judge not&#34; to resist accountability, and everyone knows the Golden Rule. But what is Jesus actually teaching? This sermon argues that Jesus calls us not to avoid judgment altogether, but to exercise biblical wisdom and discernment — beginning with honest self-examination. When we recognize our own desperate need for mercy and pursue God in faith, we receive spiritual clarity that enables us to love our neighbors well. The measure we use to judge others is the measure God will use on us; therefore, we are those who first receive mercy, and then extend it.

Jesus' Golden Rule (Matthew 7:1-12)

In this final petition of the Lord&#39;s Prayer, Jesus reckons with the danger that follows reconciliation — not just the temptation to sin, but the active opposition of &#34;the evil one&#34; when temptation fails. Lead and Deliver (Matthew 6:13)

Most of us think of our sin as a few bad items on the ledger — manageable, if we just make the minimum payment.
