The Chicago Bears are 5-2 after defeating the New England Patriots 30-24 on Thursday Night Football, but the biggest stories coming out of the win go far beyond the final score.

🚨 COLE KMET INJURY

Cole Kmet suffered a right knee injury late in Thursday night’s win and had to be carted to the locker room. Ben Johnson said afterward that the injury did not look good, although the Bears still needed more information and the exact diagnosis was not known at the time of the episode notes.

Kmet finished with only three receptions for 28 yards, but his value to Chicago goes far beyond the box score.

His blocking, pass protection, red-zone versatility and ability to pair with Colston Loveland in 12 personnel give Ben Johnson options before the football is even snapped.

Rome finished with four receptions for 69 yards, but three of those catches came in the fourth quarter — and all three went for 21 yards.

Caleb Williams continued going back to Rome in critical situations, including multiple third downs, despite Odunze having an earlier offensive pass-interference penalty.

Caleb has now joined Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson as the only quarterbacks cited in the episode research to reach 50 career passing touchdowns before throwing 15 interceptions — putting the Bears quarterback in extremely rare historical company.

Caleb Williams has finally addressed the reporting surrounding his hamstring injury, and the Chicago Bears quarterback did NOT hold back.

The Chicago Bears may finally be getting Caleb Williams back, but the injury report brings both major optimism and serious concern heading into Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Chicago Bears suddenly have major questions surrounding Montez Sweat, Ryan Poles and the future of their defensive line.

On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down Montez Sweat’s two-game suspension and why this could become much bigger than simply figuring out who replaces him against Atlanta and New England.

Sweat was suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He is eligible to return October 23. The league’s public announcement did not identify the substance involved. Pasted text

Sweat reportedly forfeits roughly $2.3 million in salary, while approximately $12.7 million of remaining 2026 compensation loses guaranteed protection. The Chicago Bears have some uncomfortable questions to answer heading into their Week 6 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize starts with Jaylon Johnson and asks whether Chicago’s former All-Pro cornerback is simply going through a rough stretch or showing legitimate signs of decline.

Johnson posted a 42.7 overall PFF grade and 48.1 coverage grade in Week 5, while his 2027 cap hit is scheduled to reach roughly $25 million. Through Week 4, his overall grade ranked 91st among 103 qualified cornerbacks, while his coverage grade ranked 99th. Pasted text

The Chicago Bears are 3-2 after a brutal loss to the Green Bay Packers, and the questions around Ben Johnson, the offense and Chicago’s place in the NFC North are getting much louder.

That rise makes sense when you consider what Chicago has already survived through four games. The Bears have won starts from Caleb Williams, Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent, and Johnson has completely adjusted the offensive formula to fit each quarterback instead of forcing everyone into one rigid system.
