What Dr. Lamy enjoys most about his employment at the College is his interactions with students, and the opportunities to collaborate with all sectors of the College Community to provide Bloomfield College students with an enriching and challenging educational experience. Dr. Lamy is very active in the broader Essex County Community where he serves as a mentor to several young men and women in high school and in college. He is a recognized member of Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities Professionals; American College Personnel Association; American Counseling Association; and the Association for the Study of Higher Education. Fearless FireShirley Anita Chisholm was an American politician, educator, and author. In 1968, she became the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, representing New York&#39;s 12th congressional district for seven terms from 1969 to 1983. In the 1972 United States presidential election, she became the first African-American candidate for a major party&#39;s nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party&#39;s presidential nomination. Born in Brooklyn, Chisolm studied and worked in early childhood education, becoming involved in local Democratic party politics in the 1950s. In 1964, overcoming some resistance because she was a woman, she was elected to the New York State Assembly. Four years later she was elected to Congress, where she led the expansion of food and nutrition programs for the poor and rose to party leadership. She retired from Congress in 1983 and taught at Mt Holyoke College while continuing her political organizing. Although nominated for an ambassadorship in 1993, health issues caused her to withdraw. In 2015, Chisholm was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Talbert, Dr. Fitzhugh became the Instructional Special Assistant K-12. From 2010-2012, Dr. Fitzhugh served as the Principal of Chancellor Avenue/Annex Elementary School in the South Region. From 2012-2016, he served as Principal of Thomas G. Connors Elementary School within the Hoboken Public School District. In 2016-2018, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of School K-12 within the Hoboken Public School District. In June 2018, Mr. Leon, current Superintendent of the Newark Board of Education recommended Dr. Fitzhugh for the position of Deputy Superintendent of Schools.
