Episode 127: Therapy for Neuro-Development with Emily Roper

35m | Sep 14, 2026

Every child’s brain develops differently, but understanding what development can look like can help Early Years practitioners feel more confident in recognising and responding to individual needs.

In this episode of the Twinkl Talks EYFS Podcast, we explore neurodevelopment in the Early Years, beginning with an overview of how the brain typically develops during early childhood and some of the differences practitioners may notice when a child’s development follows a different pathway.

We discuss what non-typical neurodevelopment can look like in everyday practice, the role that therapy and targeted support can play, and why understanding the individual child is so important when deciding what support may be helpful.

We also hear positive stories about the difference the right support can make and share practical tips that Early Years practitioners and families can take away and use when supporting children in their own settings and at home.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Understanding brain development in the Early Years
  • Typical and non-typical developmental pathways
  • Recognising and responding to individual differences
  • The role of therapy in supporting neurodevelopment
  • Positive outcomes and success stories
  • Practical tips for supporting children and families
