Probably the most celebrated and famous woman of the Bible, Mary, mother of Jesus, was a woman of remarkable faith and submission. Scripture has preserved her story for us and it is a powerful testimony that with God, nothing is impossible._____________________________________________________________Foundations with Janet Denison exists to teach people about the transforming power of Scripture through digital Bible study. The book of Esther is written about the Jewish people living in Persia. The book reads like a novel, and no one has been able to determine its author. The scroll of Esther was read every year to celebrate the feast of Purim, still a favorite holiday today. Only two books in the Bible are named after women: Esther and Ruth. The book of Esther was probably included in the Canon because it is the only Old Testament scroll about the Jewish people whose ancestors had been taken captive by the Babylonians and later ruled by the Persians, but who chose to remain in Persia even when freed._____________________________________________________________Foundations with Janet Denison exists to teach people about the transforming power of Scripture through digital Bible study. Every word in the Bible is inspired truth from God, and every story that depicts someone being used by God is a reminder for us that God can use anyone to accomplish his kingdom purpose. Abigail is an extraordinary woman of faith who God used to ensure David’s kingship. She was a beautiful, intelligent, and wise woman whose humility and diplomacy made a lasting impression on David, who, without her influence, would have jeopardized his ascent to the throne by one reckless act of vengeance._____________________________________________________________Foundations with Janet Denison exists to teach people about the transforming power of Scripture through digital Bible study. One of the most significant periods in the history of Israel began with a story of hope. The book of 1 Samuel begins with the story of a certain man named Elkanah, who had two wives: “One was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none” (1 Samuel 1:1–2 NIV).This story has provided hope for women who found themselves waiting to conceive a child. But the story is also about waiting for God’s perfect timing to receive his perfect gifts. _____________________________________________________________Foundations with Janet Denison exists to teach people about the transforming power of Scripture through digital Bible study. Deborah was a judge in the twelfth century BC. She has a unique role in the Old Testament because she is the only woman acknowledged to have been a leader of the Jewish people.
