#29 AUTHOR: My Books Arrived Printed Wonky | The Unboxing That Wasn’t

My first Cheer Diaries proof copies arrived—and Cheer Camp had been printed completely on the wonk.

A white line ran across the cover, the interior was misaligned and my exciting first unboxing quickly became a lesson in print quality and self-publishing.

In this episode, I’m sharing how Bookvault responded to the printing problem, why I chose account credit instead of an immediate reprint and everything I discovered while examining the books properly.

I talk through the spelling, spacing and layout issues marked by my rapidly multiplying pink sticky tabs, why professional editing doesn’t replace proofreading the final formatted book and the cover designs I decided to change after seeing them in print.

I also explain why I ordered proofs from Bookvault, Amazon KDP and IngramSpark before allowing the books to reach customers.

This wasn’t quite the glamorous author unboxing moment I had pictured—but it was a very useful reminder that finding problems is exactly what proof copies are for.
