Welcome back to Go Big to Give Big Podcasts. Today we have with us, Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal, the person behind Resilience Leadership.

Dr. Taryn Marie is a keynote speaker and executive coach. She’s always been fascinated by people - in particular, what allows people to be at their very best. In her quest, she has studied resilience for over a decade and a half, interviewing hundreds of people and collecting thousands of pieces of data on how we face challenges with optimal resilience, giving rise to the empirical framework, The Five Practices of Particularly Resilient People. The power of resilience has also found her as she has faced her challenges of trauma, loss, and significant learning disabilities. Believing that resilience is both the missing piece and the key to development for people across the globe, she founded Resilience Leadership Institute.

Let’s buckle up as Dr. Taryn Marie talks about how we could develop resilience and how it could help us be successful in our respective fields.

Key Highlights:

[00:00 - 07:48] The Value of Experience

  • Executives are comfortable working with people who had the similar experience to what they’re experiencing in the organization

  • We can develop resilience by facing complexity and challenges
  • The sympathetic nervous system dictates fight, flight or freeze while the parasympathetic nervous system tells us that there are more choices than those three
  • Dr. Taryn Marie quotes Viktor Frankl who talks about in between stimulus and response, there is a space and that space is choice.
  • Resilience can be developed through:
  • Vulnerability
  • Productive Perseverance
  • Connection with ourselves and other people
  • Practice of grandiosity
  • Practice of possibility

“Quitting is not necessarily a bad thing. There is such a thing as a socket, sunk expense, diminishing returns, having the savvy and the foresight to realize that the energy that you are putting into a particular goal gets to be pivoted in a new direction.” - Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal

“I believe that money can buy you satisfaction and stability.” - Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal
