Ep 506 | Rumination of thunder, dimension hopping in a trash can, and an encounter with serial killer BTK
Drinking With Authors | Featuring Brian Johnson
Guest: Brian Johnson is a storm chaser, his work has been used by NASA, and he’s been alone with a serial killer in his house. Author of Aristid.
Drink of Choice: Either a Jack and Coke or an Old Fashioned (Bullett Rye, orange bitters, simple syrup)
Brian Johnson's fascination with storytelling began with childhood encounters in mythology and Star Wars, sparking a lifelong passion for science fiction, fantasy, and horror. He has published poetry and short stories in anthologies and online magazines. Hellfire Publications released his debut novel Hell to Pay in 2011.
After earning degrees in education and working with the National Writing Project, Brian returned to fiction with renewed focus. His novel The Dark Cry of Aristid was published in 2022, and his latest work, Middle-Aged Man in a Trashcan, was published by Wild Rose Press in 2025.
A fellow with The National Writer's Project Writer's Circle, Artist INC, and Project Atmosphere, Brian combines his scientific background with artistic vision as a storm chaser and photographer.
His work has been used by NASA, the National Weather Service, and NOAA and can be seen at his Ruminationofthunder.com website. He also co-hosts Tikiman and the Viking, a podcast exploring creativity and the writing process.
William Brian Johnson is a crow in a field of broken glass—an author, teacher, storm chaser, and photographer whose books are semiautobiographical and damn lies.
Co-created Double Wide Justice and hoping for a summer release of The Mayor's Wife's Dog Fighting Ring, also next novel in the Aristid Saga "King Helgi" will be out by November. May do an early release for subscribers.
