    In this episode, we discuss the path to River Road in Fairhope, AL. The road that began before the 911 call on June 1, 2012, before anyone knew Brittney Wood was missing. With Brittney’s phone going silent near Grand Bay on May 31. With Donnie’s phone moving away from Styx River. With calls to Brittney that continued after her phone stopped giving location. With an interview that never happened.

    Special recognition to CJ Wilkinson, whom we remember always, but especially the week of this release. CJ went missing on July 29, 2020 - found deceased on October 8th, 2020. His suspicious death is widely believed to be a homicide and remains unsolved to this day. He was an aspiring musician whose song “Unforgotten – CJ’s Song” is featured as the intro music to each episode this season. A candlelight vigil is being held Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The timeline begins before sunrise, follows Brittney’s phone from Theodore to Lenardo Drive, then east toward Baldwin County, and ends with two critical points: a voicemail access near Styx River just after midnight and Brittney’s final phone activity near Grand Bay at 1:47 a.m.

    Before the phone went quiet, the records show movement, communication, overlapping timelines, and unanswered questions that still matter.

    Unlike the structured episodes, Case Notes follows the working process behind the reporting: what stands out in the records, what still needs context, and where an observation may be worth sharing even when it isn’t a conclusion. The conversation moves from relationship dynamics surrounding Donnie Holland, including his marriage to Wendy and the broader environment around him, into the limits of cell tower data and why tower activity can appear scattered when a phone is moving.

    In December 1978, 20 year old Debra Gunter vanished from her overnight shift at a Little General store on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Four days later, her body was found in the woods near McIntosh, Alabama, eighty five miles from where she disappeared.

    In Episode 4, The Line Marked Suspect, we examine newly obtained records from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, tracing the timeline of Debra’s disappearance, the discovery of her body, and two robberies that occurred within minutes of her vanishing. As we review forensic findings and the limited documentation from the scene, a troubling question emerges. Did investigators have enough time to see everything that mattered.

Renewed efforts from Enterprise PD and ALEA began in October 2017, and their efforts have recently picked up again. Today, we’re sharing the rollercoaster of events this case has been on and even an important update.
