We are two cousins from opposite ends of the globe who have way too many opinions about figure skating! So we decided to record ourselves talking about anything and everything that has recently gone down in the skating world.

It is officially the Beijing 2022 Olympics! It has already been incredibly eventful, but we are going to start with the Team Event short programs and rhythm dance events.  This episode was full of math as we tried to add everyone’s points together, and we talked about the fight for the podium spots between ROC, USA, and Japan, as well as the fight for that 5th FS qualifying spot between China and Georgia. The Men warmed us up with notable skaters like Shoma Uno, Nathan Chen, and a special shoutout to Boyang Jin who took his first step onto home Olympic ice. Then in Ice Dance, we saw Hubbell/Donohue’s amazing Janet Jackson program, and Mom and Dad (Guignard/Fabbri)’s Michael Jackson program. In Pairs, Moore-Towers/Marinaro had a redemptive skate, Miura/Kihara made us cry with Hallelujah, and of course, Sui/Han had the skate of their lives. Finally, in the Women’s SP, it was so nice to see Eliska Brezinova here, as well as a phenomenal skate from Madeline Schizas. S02 E19: Olympics 2022 - Team Event SP (Pt.1)

Four Continents already?! This year, it was more like Definitely Less Than Four Continents, as we had many withdrawals, but still an event with many podium finishes we loved. In the Pairs event, everyone stayed home, but we had a triumphant comeback from Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud with their bronze medal and wonderfully skated SP, and a gold medal for our dark horse team in US pairs, Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov. In the Men’s event, it was a mixed bag (as always), but Jun-hwan Cha was our clear winner with a fantastic SP and a solid FS. Unfortunately for the American men, they did not have the competition they wanted, but we were also very glad to see two pod faves Kazuki Tomono and Kao Miura on the podium in silver and bronze, respectively. In Ice Dance, we were so grateful to see Team KanaDai again, and also that INCREDIBLE FD from Caroline Green and Michael Parsons. And finally in the Women’s event, there were mixed emotions, as we cried about Korea only having two women’s Olympic spots, and the fact that Mai Mihara can’t even go? Criminal. S02 E18: Four Continents Championships 2022

In our second 2022 Euros recap episode, there was no shortage of laughter or tears, as we nervously chuckled about Larry Loupolover’s choreography, but are so incredibly sad that Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius will not be going to the Olympics despite an incredibly hard struggle to obtain Allison’s Lithuanian citizenship. In the Men’s event, we continued to wish for Kevin Aymoz to rest (but it’s a little late now that we are right up against Olympics Eve), played some air guitar with Michal Brezina and his love for dad rock, and were SO happy for Jesus Christ Superstar, I mean, Mark Kondratiuk, who won the gold medal. In Ice Dance, there was a clear winner in the battle for the Spanish Olympics spot, with Smart and Diaz coming out on top, and an even clearer winner in Stepanova and Bukin’s RD in that teenage heartthrobs will get us every time. S02 E16: European Championships 2022 - Women & Pairs

It’s our second U.S. Nationals recap episode, this time with the Women and Pairs’ events, and there was no shortage of positive COVID tests.  After the sad withdrawals of Alysa Liu, and the heartbreak of Amber Glenn, we were able to watch on the edge of our seats as Mariah Bell won her first nationals title, Karen Chen made her way to her second Olympics, and Isabeau Levito made a splash at her first senior nationals. The pairs’ event was a short one after many withdrawals due to injury and COVID, but we celebrated with Timothy LeDuc as they became the first non-binary American gold medalist (!!!!). We also cheered for our favorite dark horse team, Lu and Mitrofanov, and marveled at Jessica Calalang’s phenomenal dresses. S02 E15: U.S. Nationals 2022 - Women & Pairs

US Nationals was a heck of a superspreader, er, figure skating competition! The top 7 men laid it down in the short program, and went on to lay down some chaos in the free skate. Ice Dance saw some nail biters and some boy bands as the top teams battled for the gold medal, and that coveted third Olympic spot. In the Men’s event, we saw either Guy Fieri, Hot Cheetos, or the Eye of Sauron on Nathan Chen’s new fiery costume, a triumphant Camden Pulkinen, and a sad boot incident for our disco dancing king, Yaroslav Paniot. In Ice Dance, we ah ah ah’ed our way through our recap, wondering how many sweatshirts Evan Bates really had on, bopping our heads to Eva Pate and Logan Bye’s Bye Bye Bye RD, and crying over both Hawayek and Baker, and Green and Parsons’ free dances. US Nationals was a heck of a superspreader, er, figure skating competition! The top 7 men laid it down in the short program, and went on to lay down some chaos in the free skate. Ice Dance saw some nail biters and some boy bands as the top teams battled for the gold medal, and that coveted third Olympic spot.

In the Men’s event, we saw either Guy Fieri, Hot Cheetos, or the Eye of Sauron on Nathan Chen’s new fiery costume, a triumphant Camden Pulkinen, and a sad boot incident for our disco dancing king, Yaroslav Paniot.

In Ice Dance, we ah ah ah’ed our way through our recap, wondering how many sweatshirts Evan Bates really had on, bopping our heads to Eva Pate and Logan Bye’s Bye Bye Bye RD, and crying over both Hawayek and Baker, and Green and Parsons’ free dances.

S02 E14: U.S. Nationals 2022 - Men & Ice Dance

It was a big weekend for the Russian women, with so many phenomenal contenders (and of course, the questionable officials and adults in power) but so few qualifying spots for the Olympics and the remainder of the season. It was also a big weekend for the Russian pairs, with some surprising outings, but solid standings and tight competition. In the women’s event, we cried for Liza Tuktymysheva, were Sofia Samodurova’s hype women, and marveled at Kamila Valieva’s performance. S02 E11: Japanese Nationals 2021/22

It was a week of close calls in Ice Dance and blue body paint in the Men’s event in Sochi! In the Men’s event, we ate our words as last week, we let down our defences with less chaos in France, but this week the chaos multiplied tenfold and also became much more blue. Morisi Kvitelashvili granted his own three wishes for a Grand Prix gold medal, Roman Sadovsky put himself very much in contention for that second Canadian Men’s Olympic spot, and Keiji Tanaka and Kazuki Tomono star in our (completely imaginary, wishful thinking) Youtube Thrift With Me series. In Ice Dance, we had some nailbiting-ly close scores, and some very beautiful people. We talked about that Spanish Olympic spot, the return of Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker, and also the return of Barbara Fusar-Poli and her stopwatch and enthusiasm. We also talked about the Men and Dance qualifiers for the Grand Prix Final, again only to announce that it is understandably but sadly canceled. It was a week of close calls in Ice Dance and blue body paint in the Men’s event in Sochi!

In the Men’s event, we ate our words as last week, we let down our defences with less chaos in France, but this week the chaos multiplied tenfold and also became much more blue. Morisi Kvitelashvili granted his own three wishes for a Grand Prix gold medal, Roman Sadovsky put himself very much in contention for that second Canadian Men’s Olympic spot, and Keiji Tanaka and Kazuki Tomono star in our (completely imaginary, wishful thinking) Youtube Thrift With Me series.

In Ice Dance, we had some nailbiting-ly close scores, and some very beautiful people. We talked about that Spanish Olympic spot, the return of Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker, and also the return of Barbara Fusar-Poli and her stopwatch and enthusiasm.

We also talked about the Men and Dance qualifiers for the Grand Prix Final, again only to announce that it is understandably but sadly canceled.

Well well well, it’s another Men’s event and thankfully no one had to say the words “1st to 7th and 7th to 1st” as the chaos was taken down a notch. In the Men’s event, we eagerly got our lightsabers out again to bop along to Adam Siao Him Fa’s step sequence, breathed a sigh of relief for and with Kevin Aymoz, and smiled and laughed with Michael Buble for Kagiyama Yuma’s second Grand Prix circuit gold medal. In Ice Dance, our favorite teenage heartthrob-filled RD from Stepanova and Bukin did not disappoint, and neither did the programs from our top two teams, as there was a battle between those top three medal spots. S02 E08: Internationaux de France 2021/22 - Men & Ice Dance

We were out for NHK last week due to a family emergency but have a quick recap for you before we jump into the Women and Pairs events at Internationaux de France. In the Women’s event, we SCREAMED and ascended to another dimension after Higuchi Wakaba’s Lion King Free Skate, pleaded with Mariah Bell to bring back Britney, and put some makeup-safe chunky glitter in our Etsy carts so we can be more like Aliona Kostornaia. In the Pairs event, we continued to attend HSLOT in France with Vanessa James and Eric Radford (but still question the superstition of using Falling as your program music), and request more vigorous wing flapping from Boikova and Kozlovskii. No matter the location, whether the Grand Prix is in Italy or China, this week’s cohort of skaters, yet again, delivered some questionable rhythm dances and chaotic performances, leaving Claudia and Joce once again, emotionally scarred.  The Ice Dance event saw the much anticipated return of Gabriella Papadakis &amp; Guillaume Cizeron, who whacked and vogued their way to the top of the podium. Chinese team, Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu brought some blue suede shoes to the stage with their RD, while Alexandra Stepanova &amp; Ivan Bukin took us through a tour of the boy-bands, fulfilling skating-Tik-Tok’s king, Ivan’s dreams. The Men’s event was potentially hijacked by some aliens, with vague comments on their condition from Dmitri Aliev, jumps that were wild and yeeted into the atmosphere from the Italian men, and Jin Boyang and Kagiyama Yuma deciding that they would go from first to seventh and seventh to first. S02 E06: Gran Premio d'Italia 2021/22 - Men & Ice Dance

This leg of the Grand Prix circuit was saved from disaster by the wonderful Italian federation, who seemed to have had the funds to invite the likes of Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa to the Women &amp; Pairs events this past weekend.  In our Pairs event, we saw the start of Nicole Della Monica &amp; Matteo Guarise’s last competitive season, but their legacy and unitards are in good hands with the up and coming Italian teams. We also saw and shared the joy of the Chinese pairs team, Peng &amp; Jin, whilst also crying heartfelt tears for Sui &amp; Han’s comments about the meaning behind their FS. In the Women’s event, we cry about the disappointing skates from the oh so talented Korean women, and also shed more tears at the amazing skates the Japanese women laid down. S02 E05: Gran Premio d'Italia 2021/22 - Women & Pairs

It is the second senior Grand Prix event of the season and we are already exhausted, and the men’s continued chaos does not help one bit. Fortunately in this Skate Canada Men and Ice Dance episode, there were some relieving and joyful moments as well. In the Ice Dance event, we pleaded with Zach Lagha to sell his Rio beak masks, continued to be both 3000 and 8 and 2000 and late with another Boom Boom Pow program, and gave bold predictions about Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier on the Olympic podium. In the Men’s event, we were worried about Keegan Messing (although very much appreciated the photos of Lane and Wyatt in the K&amp;C), and surprised by the sudden appearance of Avril Lavigne in the Matrix. We also breathed a collective sigh of relief for Nathan Chen (but not for Raf). We also questioned who Joce’s clubbing buddy is now that Uno Shoma is skating to Vivaldi and Bolero, and cried for and with Kevin Aymoz while joining the audience for a standing ovation. In the dance event, we pondered the placement of Yehor Yehorov’s worm-ing on the ice, dated ourselves by revealing how old we were when Boom Boom Pow topped the charts, and learned the true meaning of Too Darn Hot with Evan Bates’ highly insulated free dance costume.
