  • The Broken System - Season 2 - Episode 12: The Disappearance of Chisti Jo Nicols

Mark Nichols and his wife, Christi, had been married for three years when an evening out took a dark turn. Leaving their two children with a babysitter, they went to a bar. Mark returned after midnight, paid the sitter in cash, and things took a strange twist. Usually, it was Christi who handled the payment, and she did it with a check. The babysitter later claimed she didn't believe Christi came home with Mark.

The next day, Mark reported Christi missing, stating they argued until 2:00 a.m. before he went to sleep. He woke up at 7:00 a.m., realizing Christi was gone. Instead of immediately reporting it, he took the kids to Christi's grandmother and spent two hours supposedly searching for her. However, no one in town reported seeing him.

Mark moved out the day after Christi's disappearance, selling their belongings and vehicles. Christi's purse and suitcase were later found at an Interstate 80 rest stop in March 1988, with all the contents intact, as if intentionally placed to be discovered.

Christi, facing marital problems and alleged abuse, had met with a divorce attorney two days before disappearing. She sought custody of her children and expressed a desire to end the marriage. Mark's version of events differed significantly, and his polygraph results were inconclusive.

The unsettling discovery of trace amounts of Christi's blood raised suspicions. Mark claimed it was menstrual blood, but analysis disproved his statement. Despite these red flags, Mark currently lives in Arkansas with his third wife, and foul play is suspected in Christi's disappearance.

Join us as we unravel the mysterious disappearance of Christi Nichols, a quiet and dedicated mother whose case remains unsolved to this day.

  • The Broken System - Season 2 - Episode 3: The Case of Temujin Kensu - Part 1

Have you ever heard a story that made you question the justice system? This week on the Broken System podcast, we put a spotlight on the chilling tale of Temujin Kensu, a man held captive behind bars for three and a half decades for a crime many believe he did not commit. We dissect the dubious investigation that led to his conviction, the shaky evidence, and the suffering of the victim still seeking justice. As we navigate through these murky waters, we aim to shine a light on the flaws in the system that led to this tragic case.

As we dive deeper into Temujin Kensu's life, we encounter a troubling past marked by his mother's physical and emotional abuse, a history that would shape his future in unimaginable ways. His adoption of martial arts and Eastern religious beliefs, his escalating confrontations with his mother, and his ongoing struggle to defend himself paints a vivid picture of the trials he faced. We unravel the questionable tactics of his attorney and challenge the flawed police narrative that led to his wrongful conviction.

Finally, we spin the wheels back to the seminal decade of the 80s to explore its influence on trials like Temujin's. The era was riddled with controversies like recovered memories, satanic panic, and biases against Eastern cultures, all of which left an indelible mark on Temujin's case. This exploration acts as a mirror to our own times, questioning how far we've truly come, and propelling us to strive for a more equitable legal system. Tune in for a hard-hitting examination of a story that exposes the fractures in our justice system and our enduring mission to repair them.

  • The Broken System - Season 2 - Episode 2 - The Silver Linings Handbook/ With Jayson Blair

This Weeks Episode we join Jayson Blair from The Silver Linings Handbook to discuss The Broken System Podcast and other things we are looking into.

" In this episode, Jayson is joined by Robert Parmer, the host to The Broken Systems Podcast, a podcast focused on bringing justice to those who deserve it. The people whose cases are derailed for a variety of reasons, whether it's tunnel vision, their socioeconomic backgrounds, their mental health, the neighborhood they live in, internal problems with law enforcement or just plain laziness.

Robert is not a journalist or a lawyer or a politician or a former FBI agent. But the first season of The Broken Systems Podcast has led to a significant impact on bringing attention and putting pressure on law enforcement to solve a case in Georgia that was beset by law enforcement.  In fighting in this case in a small northern Georgia County, it would have likely not have been solved without people like Robert.

We're going to talk about that case and more and how to fix the system."

In this episode, we will delve into the intriguing interviews conducted between the detectives and our person of interest, Mark. Together, we will analyze and break down these conversations, uncovering inconsistencies that shed light on the ever-changing narrative.

By examining the thought processes of the detectives and Mark, we aim to reveal the numerous occasions where confusion arises. The detectives find themselves confused by the statements made, repeatedly seeking clarification and asking probing questions. They question why certain details were concealed during the initial interview and why the truth seemed elusive as the story evolved.

Throughout this episode, we will present you with the actual interviews, allowing you to hear Mark's words firsthand. This audio evidence goes beyond the police reports and 911 calls we explored in previous episodes. Our intention is to emphasize the inconsistencies that have emerged in this case and highlight the problems that plagued it from the very beginning.

Despite these glaring discrepancies and the challenges faced early on, it continues to baffle me that Mark remains free from incarceration. How is it possible that no charges have been filed against him? This fact truly astonishes me. I find myself questioning why justice has not been served.

Rest assured, we will continue to raise our voices u
