15. "Pretty for a Black Girl" & The Cost of Beauty (feat. Jennifer Holness)

1h 21m | Jun 18, 2022

This episode is an example of an 1 to 1 interview series within the podcast called Miseducation in Conversation, in which Sarah asks a guest to share an area of life they feel they have been miseducated on and what they are doing to re-educate themselves. For this episode, Sarah interviews Canadian director, writer and producer, Jennifer Holness, as they discuss her documentary Subjects of Desire (2021). Throughout the course of the discussion, Sarah and Jen talk about the complex nature of self-love for Black women, teaching self-love to her daughters, beauty as capital and the implications of Black people within white supremacy.
