  • Ep. 397 w/ Giles Lowe & Arne Lang-Ree Founders of Spanner
Spanner creates products that impact the world and the way we live. Our goal is to merge innovation, sustainability and responsibility to bring meaningful product experiences to life. Founded in 2014 by product development veterans Giles Lowe and Arne Lang-Ree, the duo set out to create a superior approach for engaging with innovators, entrepreneurs and designers. They achieved this through a highly collaborative process, in essence teaming up with their clients through all aspects of product evolution from idea to launch. Spanner’s portfolio boasts hundreds of companies including Apple, Google and Amazon and globally recognized products including Xbox, Fitbit and GoPro. The team has introduced many disruptive products to market including Brava, August Lock, Sana, and Arable. Spanner believes that with great products comes great responsibility. The company is dedicated to making the world a better place through its products and beyond. Most recently, Spanner has taken part in a philanthropic venture with Living Water International to drill a water well in El Salvador, providing clean, safe water for residents. Regardless the distance or the challenge, Spanner applies its global sensibilities and engineering experience to every aspect of its business and team culture. Spanner is headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley in a sustainable historic building complete with tail-wagging friends, bikes and an unstoppable creativity that reflects the firm’s best practices. Spanner prides itself on its unparalleled passion and determination to consistently deliver successful products to market… and the result is a better humanity. Giles Lowe is co-founder and CEO of Spanner, a firm committed to creating products that impact the world and the way we live. As a child in England, Giles was fascinated with how things worked and enjoyed taking apart radios and other appliances. Fast forward more than two decades later, and Giles is still deconstructing and making things work better. He has tenaciously led many successful high profile launches for world-renowned companies including Apple, Google and Microsoft and hundreds of emerging markets. Giles has a wealth of international experience in a diverse array of product markets including consumer electronics products for home, wellness, entertainment, agriculture, food and beverage, sports, and motorsports. When not creating the next disruptive product, he can be found paddle boarding or surfing along the California coast or making sandcastles with his triplets. Giles holds a BSC with honors in product design and manufacturing from Bournemouth University. Arne Lang-Ree is co-founder and CTO of Spanner. A tinker, thinker and deconstuctor, Arne challenges himself and Spanner’s clients to bring sustainable and responsible products to life. Born in Norway, Arne was schooled by his engineering father to look at things twice. At an early age, he was imagineering inventions that ultimately inspired him to earn his MSE in Product Design and BSME in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. In his career, Arne has racked up more than 25 years of product development and mechanical design experience for consumer products including Koosh, Fitbit, Bell, GoPro, and a host of disruptive products with start-ups. Arne is rarely without his trusted canine sidekick, Penny, and the duo can be found at the Spanner office creating together or walking the Silicon Valley for inspiration. http://www.spannerpd.com https://www.linkedin.com/company/spanner-pd https://www.instagram.com/spannerpd

A groundbreaking smart motorcycle helmet from down under. It’s called the MK1 and features Forcite’s patented RAYDAR™ helmet system, combining the latest Formula 1 LED technology, audio interactivity, military-grade camera recording and a fingertip handlebar controller into a smart, seamless and sensory rider experience. Forcite launched the MK1 in Australia to overwhelming demand, selling out within weeks and will deliver the helmet to the United States in 2020. Forcite is led by Alfred Boyadgis, 29, a visionary and industrial designer with a passion for motorsports. A serious motorcycle accident inspired Alfred to create the MK1 and provide motorcyclists with a complete riding ecosystem, providing relevant information to keep them connected and aware of everything going on around them without unnecessary distractions. “Forcite’s mantra is ‘Know Everything’ and our RAYDAR system enables just that, setting a new standard in motorcycle connectivity and awareness,” said Alfred Boyadgis, founder & CEO, Forcite. “Forcite is here to wage war with the big brands and fly the flag high as the leader in smart helmet tech globally.” Forcite is transforming the motorcycle helmet industry with a range of helmets designed to make the riding experience smarter and safer. Initially designed for motorcycle police officers to help with response times and ultimately save lives, Forcite has evolved its smart helmet to include all motorcyclists, resulting in a complete platform for the riding ecosystem that connects riders to roads, communities and cities. Alfred Boyadgis is founder & CEO of Forcite. A visionary and industrial designer with a passion for motorsports, Alfred was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2014. The near-fatal wreck inspired Alfred to create what would ultimately become the Forcite MK1: the “Know Everything” helmet that keeps motorcyclists fully informed of what is going on around them using a patented light display. Alfred has a rich history of industrial design, branding and mechanical engineering experience and has received several industry design awards and accolades including being named to the Forbes “30 Under 30” list and an Australian Good Design award. Alfred holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and Product Engineering with first-class honours from University New South Wales, Sydney. www.forcitehelmets.com https://twitter.com/ForciteHelmets www.linkedin.com/in/alfred-boyadgis-3759563b

  • Ep. 391 w/ Angela Lussier CEO & founder of Speaker Sisterhood
I'm living a life I never expected to have. Growing up, I was shy and didn't think I had much to say. When I was 24 an insightful manager of mine encouraged me to find my voice so I could be a stronger leader. At that time, I was panicking before staff meetings, worried about being singled out, and working harder than ever to fit in. I decided to take him up on his advice and spent the next four years working through my fear of speaking (to anyone, really) and found confidence to not only get on stage and present, but also to quit my job and start a business. At 28, I became an independent career consultant and wrote my first book, The Anti-Resume Revolution. Since then, I've become an award-winning professional speaker, written four more books, helped thousands of people find or create work they love, and got invited to the TEDx stage twice. I am now running the Speaking School for Women, hosting Claim the Stage, a public speaking podcast for women. The Speaker Sisterhood is a network of public speaking clubs for women who want to follow their dreams by finding their voice. If you want to be a better facilitator at meetings, feel more confident speaking up, and present yourself with a stronger presence, this club is for you. The first club started in August 2016 in Springfield, MA and in the first few months, five more clubs launched due to popular demand. The network is growing and more clubs are launching all the time. The goal is to create a worldwide network of women who are speaking their truth and becoming role models for the next generation. • Ep. 389 w/ Jeff Ransdell Co-Founder/Managing Director at Rokk3rFuel Venture Capital
Jeff Ransdell is a venture capitalist building a portfolio of exponential technology companies at Wynwood Arts District-based venture capital firm Rokk3r Fuel ExO, which he co-founded in 2017 following a departure from the world of private wealth management. Jeff approaches venture capital with a signature “founder focused, investor driven” mindset, shaped by two decades as a top executive of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. As a managing director and market executive of the financial powerhouse, he managed more than $130 billion of global private client investment assets, a P&L of $2 billion, and over 2,000 employees across the bank’s Southeast Wealth Management Division. His transition to venture capital was motivated by what he saw as mounting evidence that opportunities to shape the economy and capitalize on innovation were steadily shifting from the public markets to the private markets. In the face of much skepticism, Jeff chose Miami, Florida, as the home base for Rokk3r Fuel, armed with an unparalleled rolodex and emboldened to leverage the city’s untapped resources and advantages. Today, Rokk3r Fuel manages a $200 million fund and has a portfolio of almost a dozen companies, such as Bolt, AdMobilize, and Taxfyle. Jeff is regularly called upon to share his insights on the global economy with outlets such as CNBC, CBS and American City Business Journals. • Ep. 383 w/ David & Kathryn Co-founders of Apollo Neuroscience
In 2017 husband and wife team Kathryn Fantauzzia and Dr. David Rabin and together we set out to accelerate the development and translation of novel neuroscience discoveries to address public health needs and improve outcomes. Recently the World Health Organization officially recognized burnout as a medical syndrome. This designation is a milestone calling out for the world to combat the collective global crisis of work-related stress. When left unchecked, chronic daily stress overwhelms the body and mind, burning us out by making it hard to sleep, focus at work, and feel engaged. This leaves us exhausted, depleted, increasingly “checked out” and feeling ineffective, no matter how hard or long we work. Most worrisome, burnout can lead to serious negative health consequences. The economic consequences of burnout for business are palpable, with studies showing the following figures: ● Two-third of the full-time American workforce suffers from burnout ● On average, workers lose 11.3 days in lost productivity due to chronic stress in the workplace. ● US businesses suffer $63.2B in lost productivity annually due to chronic stress at work. And the most concerning stat: there are 120,000 stress-attributed deaths a year caused by stress-related illnesses. We’ve all heard of steps to manage our stress like meditating, exercising regularly, and prioritizing our sleep. However, these activities can be tremendously difficult to pursue when you’re already overwhelmed and stressed out and there is a scientific reason for it - Our bodies are not designed for persistent stress. When faced with constant emails, phone calls, text messages, distraction and interruption, our fear center in our brain becomes overactive, making it significantly harder to sleep, meditate, and focus. And that’s where Apollo comes in. Apollo is the only technology to improve sleep and cognitive performance by delivering vibration through a wearable. Apollo works within minutes by signaling safety to the brain and is the only technology that has been clinically validated to improve Heart Rate Variability (HRV), the most reliable predictive measure of how well your body adapts to and recovers from stress. In the age of wearables, many devices including the Apple Watch track your HRV, but do nothing to improve it. By signaling safety to the body, Apollo naturally improves HRV, and restores homeostasis, helping users fall asleep faster, focus, and practice mindfulness more easily. Apollo users can track improvements in their sleep and biometrics within the mobile app. Apollo has been evaluated in multiple University-led trials, has been tested by over 1,000 beta testers, and has over 500 case studies with long term users, all with consistent results. Over 95 percent of users report enhanced productivity, focus and sleep when using Apollo. https://shop.apolloneuro.com https://vimeo.com/377890612/9b4f6547d8
