Juggernauts like <em>Serial<\/em> exploded in popularity nearly a decade ago, and many advertisers began to take notice of podcasting as an industry. Today, we\u2019re seeing more and more brands dip their toes into the world of podcast advertising. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/journalism\/2023\/04\/18\/how-americans-use-and-engage-with-podcasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research<\/a>, about half of Americans (49%) have listened to a podcast in the past year, with 22% of those listeners tuning in at least a few times a week and a whopping 20% listening <em>every day<\/em>. This creates an enormous amount of opportunities for brands to reach potential customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even more impressive? Those listeners are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edisonresearch.com\/super-listeners-2021-from-edison-research-and-ad-results-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">less likely to skip<\/a> over ad breaks. Podcast listeners are among the most engaged content consumers ever. They\u2019re enthralled by podcasts and enjoy podcast ad breaks almost as much as the podcast themselves. Host-Read ads in particular create a better experience for listeners as the host often puts in a great deal of effort to ensure the ads are as enjoyable as they are educational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Who\u2019s Listening?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It feels like nearly everyone you know listens to podcasts (or is that just us?) Podcasts tend to be more popular with younger generations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/journalism\/2023\/04\/18\/podcast-use-among-different-age-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">With 58% of American Millennials and 67% of American Gen Z\u2019ers<\/a> being the top listeners. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/content\/who-actually-buying-stuff-podcast-ads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a majority listeners who purchase<\/a> products and\/or services they heard about on a podcast are high earners with household incomes of $100k+. These listeners are highly engaged and have enough disposable income to try out the recommended products and\/or services for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of these listeners also hold key positions in their workplaces. Making them the decision makers for certain B2B services. Advertising for B2B services and products is achievable through both Host-Read and Programmatic ads. Brands can scale their reach and awareness with podcast advertising, especially with their target demographics. Programmatic uses behavioral, contextual, and demographic targeting to ensure that your message is reaching the right listeners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>How Are They Engaging?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Podcast listeners more often than not take the word of their favorite host when it comes to product recommends. In fact, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adresultsmedia.com\/news-insights\/is-podcast-advertising-effective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ad Results Media<\/a>, \u201c68% of consumers are more willing to consider \u200b\u200ba product or service after hearing about it on a podcast.\u201d And, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/news-center\/2022\/nielsen-releases-third-podcasting-today-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to Nielsen<\/a>, \u201c56% of podcast listeners say they pay more attention to ads read by the host(s).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Podcasts are <em>highly<\/em> influential to almost all generations! About <a href=\"https:\/\/adage.com\/article\/digital-marketing-ad-tech-news\/podcasters-impact-consumers-purchasing-decisions-more-influencers-study-finds\/2493946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">90% of Millennial podcast listeners<\/a> say their beliefs have been influenced by their favorite podcasts. And they\u2019re not alone! About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edisonresearch.com\/the-gen-z-podcast-report-from-edison-research-and-sxm-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">82% of Gen Z listeners<\/a> have taken an action directly after hearing a podcast advertisement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The influence of podcasts are growing, with a majority of the younger generations relying on them heavily for recommendations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.podpod.com\/article\/1844300\/podcasts-trusted-medium-according-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trust in podcasts<\/a> is among the highest across <em>all<\/em> media.
