S7E294 - 36m - Aug 7, 2026 - 293: Splatoon Raiders, Shards of Order, PANIC! Giveaway
This week we open by stringing together some games industry news stories, and looking for a pattern: namely, Sony nixing discs, high hardware costs, and Xbox trialling streaming with ads. Then we move into lighter territory, with some thoughts on video game tarot decks, Shards Of Order, and Splatoon Raiders.
I also launch a brand new patron in partnership with PANIC!, esteemed indie publisher, and the makers of Playdate. New, returning, or upgrading patrons at the Midi tier+ can get a free Steam code for Time Flies, Blippo+, or Despelote — exactly the kind of artistic, interesting video games this podcast was made to talk about. It's also an excuse to lend GITW some (much needed) financial support. Just join up here and I'll be in touch with your code: http://patreon.com/gaminginthewild.
Special thanks to my Boss and Benefactor tier patrons: KingChamp, SusannaMaria, Drellesh, Rhyistic Studies, Nate, Noah, Jeremy 1, Jeremy 2, Andrew, and Glenn.

S7E293 - 39m - Jul 24, 2026 - 292: Black Flag, Vampire Crawlers, Cobalt Core & More
This week's episode is a grab bag featuring some chat about the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake, which is pretty true to the original, with some significant fixes; Cobalt Core, a nice little sick deckbuilder I picked up in the Steam Summer Sale; Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, another winning title in Capcom's banner year; and Vampire Crawlers, which won me over slowly until I'd played the whole dang thing.

S7E292 - 37m - Jul 10, 2026 - 291: Next Fest, Star Fox, Vampire Crawlers & More
This week's episode is about the June Steam Next Fest. It was another huge event featuring over 5000 (!) demos — the GITW community played about 150 of them, and the show features a rundown of my top ten, and then the community vote for Best of the Fest.
In the roundup: Star Fox, Alabaster Dawn, Vampire Crawlers.

This week is a tale of two deckbuilders, with reviews of Moonsigil Atlas, and the excellent and surprising Black Jacket, which does interesting things with how cards games and narrative design intersect.
In the roundup: Mina The Hollower, Summer Game Fest, gen ATLAS, Signet City, how to pronounce "Laufey", and more.

This week's pod is a grab bag of new games, including some warm takes on the much anticipated pixel art adventure Mina The Hollower, and the widescreen stealth-action blockbuster 007: First Light. S7E289 - 35m - May 29, 2026 - 288: Pragmata, Mixtape
This week's podcast is a double-header: we have a full featured review of the excellent, original, surprising Pragmata — and a pretty chunky look at the recently released and well-reviewed (and regrettably review-bombed) Mixtape. We're really in the thick of 2026 now, and the releases are coming thick and fast, so I decided to cover both games in one bumper hourlong episode.
In the roundup: Saros & OPUS: Prism Peak.

S7E286 - 1h 20m - Apr 24, 2026 - 285: Creating The Sounds Of Ultros (with special guest Ratvadar)
This week's episode is a very special one. It's a conversation with Oscar Rydelius, aka Ratvader — the composer behind the inspired, symphonic soundtrack of Ultros, and its stunning audio and ambience. This interview was originally recorded for Lost In Cult as part of my work on the Ultros: Design Works book. It was included in the deluxe edition on CD. Special thanks to Shaun and Lost In Cult for agreeing that it should also go out in this public feed, for preservation's sake, and to reach as many people as possible.

S7E283 - 43m - Mar 27, 2026 - 282: Romeo Is A Dead Man
This week's episode is about the wildly creative, utter bonkers, critically divisive Romeo Is A Dead Man, the latest from Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture. It's a game that throws a huge amount at the wall, from classic hack 'n' slash ('n' guns) combat, to '80s pulp cinema, Japanese mythology, UK rock iconography, Lychian surrealism, and classical philosophy. For me, that led to a fun, punk, oddly intoxicating game experience that acts as a valuable counterpoint to the more safe and predictable big-budget games.
In the roundup: Resident Evil requiem, Esoteric Ebb, Homura Hime, London Games Festival.

S7E282 - 43m - Mar 13, 2026 - 281: The Best of Steam Next Fest, Resident Evil Requiem
This week's podcast is all about February's Steam Next Fest — a feast of new games that myself and the GITW community enjoyed to the fullest. First we run through my impressions of the 20 or so games I played, then move on to a personal top five, and the community's top ten game picks. We had a record number of particpants, with over 150 demos played — thanks as always to patrons Slater and soccr for making the spreadsheet work and crunching the numbers — it was a blast!
In the roundup: Resident Evil Requiem, Esoteric Ebb, Raccoin, Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime, Planet of Lana II, REPLACED, March Indie Games, and the London Games Festival.

S7E281 - 52m - Mar 6, 2026 - 280: Duskpunk, Next Fest, Romeo Is A Dead Man, More
Duskpunk is a quite brilliant "Sleeper-like" that came out at the tail end of last year. Set in the gritty, murky, war-torn city of Dredgeport, it casts those addictive, multi-functional dice and clock tabletop mechanics in a gritty Steampunk world.
